In the quiet village of Thamarassery in Kerala’s Kozhikode district, Mohammed Iqbal, 47, sits in prayer, his hands folded and eyes partly closed. Dressed in a white shirt and dhoti, he is observing a religious ritual for the third consecutive day, mourning the loss of his 15-year-old son, Mohammed Shahabaz. Tears stream down his face as he chants prayers, while his grieving relatives stand by his side.

“His wife and three children are still struggling to accept that Shahabaz is gone,” a family member says.

Iqbal, who spent years working abroad as a daily wage laborer, remembers his eldest son as a bright and talented boy. “He was excellent in school, loved making electronic toys, and was passionate about sports. He always looked after his younger siblings. I couldn’t even afford to buy him a mobile phone,” he recalls, his voice heavy with sorrow.

Determined to seek justice for his son, Iqbal vows to fight until his last breath.
