The Karnataka government has earmarked ₹9,000 crore for the white-topping of 1,682 km of sub-arterial roads in Bengaluru to enhance road durability and reduce maintenance costs.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, while addressing the Legislative Council on Thursday (March 13, 2025), stated that work has already commenced on 196 km of the proposed stretch. His response came in reply to a query raised by Congress member H.P. Sudham Das.
White-topping, which involves laying concrete over asphalt roads, is expected to improve Bengaluru’s road infrastructure, ensuring smoother and longer-lasting surfaces. The project aims to tackle the city’s persistent pothole problem and enhance traffic conditions.
