India is set to launch its first Vande Bharat Sleeper train, with Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram–Mangaluru route prioritized for this advanced overnight service. This initiative aims to enhance long-distance travel by offering modern amenities and improved comfort.
Key Highlights:
- Route Selection: The Thiruvananthapuram–Mangaluru corridor has been chosen due to high passenger demand and limited ticket availability on existing overnight trains like the Maveli and Malabar Expresses.
- Train Features: The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will comprise 16 coaches, including AC First Class, AC Two-Tier, and AC Three-Tier configurations. Passengers can expect amenities such as ergonomic berths, advanced air conditioning, USB charging ports, and enhanced safety features like fire detection systems.
- Manufacturing and Deployment: Developed by BEML in collaboration with the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), these trains are part of Indian Railways’ broader plan to introduce 200 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains across the country, aiming to modernize long-distance rail travel.
The introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train on the Thiruvananthapuram–Mangaluru route marks a significant step in enhancing passenger experience and meeting the growing demand for efficient overnight travel in the region.
