Google Study Reveals Indians’ Growing Appetite for AI Amidst Low Awareness and Early-Stage Adoption
A new study by Google in partnership with Kantar reveals a striking enthusiasm among Indians for artificial intelligence, with 75% expressing interest in having a “daily growth collaborator” — an AI-powered assistant to support personal development and everyday challenges.
The nationwide research, covering over 8,000 participants across 18 cities, shows a widespread desire to use AI to boost creativity (77%), enhance productivity (72%), and improve communication (73%).
However, despite this optimism, AI adoption in India is still in its early stages. The report shows that 60% of respondents are unfamiliar with AI technologies, and just 31% have interacted with any generative AI tools. Among those who have used Google’s Gemini AI assistant, 92% reported feeling more confident and 93% said it improved their productivity.
The study also identified key personal and professional hurdles: 68% of people struggle with starting tasks, and 52% feel they lack the necessary skills or mentorship. As a result, 61% have abandoned creative or professional pursuits due to these challenges.
Routine tasks also pose difficulties. For instance, 76% want to save time on everyday responsibilities such as budgeting or planning travel. Additionally, 84% hope to be more creative with daily routines like helping kids with schoolwork or trying new recipes — yet 71% feel stuck with recipes and 67% are overwhelmed when planning travel.
“As AI evolves, we’re committed to helping users tap into its full potential with safe, helpful, and personalised experiences,” said Shekar Khosla, Vice President of Marketing at Google India.
