Ottawa, Canada – April 5: An Indian national tragically lost his life following a stabbing incident in Rockland, a town near Ottawa. The High Commission of India in Canada confirmed the news on Friday, stating that local authorities have taken one suspect into custody.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of an Indian national in Rockland near Ottawa due to a stabbing. Police have stated a suspect has been taken into custody,” the Indian mission posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The High Commission added that it is coordinating closely with a local community association to offer all necessary support to the victim’s family.

According to a report by CTV News, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to what was initially reported as a shooting incident near Lalonde Street in Rockland around 3 PM on Friday. The location is approximately 40 kilometers east of Ottawa’s city center.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released, and OPP has not disclosed the specific charges the suspect may face. However, police have reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

“As we are just in the early stages of the investigation, there is no further information that can be provided at this time,” said an OPP spokesperson.
