New Delhi – In a firm response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 25 tourists and a local pony operator, Indian armed forces carried out a series of precision strikes in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and Pakistan under ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Hours after the operation, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar issued a pointed message on social media: “The world must show zero tolerance for terrorism.”
Operation Sindoor, launched early Tuesday morning, targeted nine known terrorist hubs used by groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and Hizbul Mujahideen. These camps were believed to be key logistical points for cross-border infiltrations and terror planning.
India has consistently held Pakistan accountable for sponsoring cross-border terrorism and has urged international powers to join in a unified stance against such threats.
Last week, ahead of the strikes, Mr. Jaishankar held conversations with foreign ministers from several non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council — including Algeria, Greece, Sierra Leone, Guyana, Panama, Slovenia, and Somalia — to underscore India’s commitment to justice and its expectations for international solidarity. Pakistan, notably, is also a current non-permanent member of the Security Council.
As India reaffirms its right to defend its citizens, Operation Sindoor marks a significant escalation in its counter-terrorism posture and sends a strong message to both domestic and global audiences.
