BENGALURU: A shocking discovery was made at a hotel on Thanisandra Main Road when staff members found an explosive-like object in a newly hired worker’s bag while searching for his Aadhaar card. The police have arrested 23-year-old Abdul Rehman, a resident of Bellalli near Kogilu Main Road, in connection with the case.
According to Joint Commissioner of East Division Ramesh Banoth, the suspicious object, resembling a tennis ball, was found inside a polythene cover and contained chemicals with two attached fuses. Authorities swiftly secured the area and safely disposed of the object, while chemical samples were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further analysis.
Rehman, who was previously a ragpicker, had reportedly left his parents four months ago and recently joined the hotel as a supplier. When asked to provide his Aadhaar card for verification, he failed to do so even after two days. Growing suspicious, a staff member checked his bag in the storage room and discovered the explosive substance, immediately alerting the police at 9:30 AM.
During interrogation, Rehman claimed to have found the object on the road but was unable to provide any legal authorization for possessing such material. He has been booked under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, along with Sections 6(a) and 9(b) of the Explosives Act, 1884.
The police have taken him into custody for further investigation to determine the source and intended use of the explosive.
