The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Karnataka, predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across multiple districts on May 14. The forecast includes gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph, especially in the interior regions of the state.

According to the IMD, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada are expected to receive heavy showers and thundershowers. In north-interior Karnataka, districts like Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, and Haveri may witness similar weather conditions along with strong winds.

In the south-interior, heavy rainfall is likely in Ballari, Chamarajanagar, Chitradurga, Hassan, and Tumakuru. Several other districts including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkamagaluru, Davangere, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, and Vijayanagara are forecast to receive light to moderate rain and thunderstorms.

For Bengaluru city, the IMD predicts partly cloudy skies transitioning to overcast conditions by evening, with moderate rain, thunderstorms, and wind speeds of 40–50 kmph. The temperature is expected to hover around 33°C maximum and 21°C minimum.

From May 15 to 19, the state is likely to continue receiving light to moderate rainfall, with no major change in maximum temperatures, though a slight decrease is expected.

On Tuesday, Bengaluru witnessed intense downpours. The city station recorded 30.2 mm and HAL station 22.8 mm of rainfall by 5:30 p.m. The rain was accompanied by strong winds, causing widespread disruption.

The BBMP reported 27 tree-fall and 94 branch-fall incidents across eight zones. East Bengaluru was the worst-hit, recording four fallen trees and 32 broken branches, with only partial resolution so far. South Bengaluru and Bommanahalli also saw significant damage, while Dasarahalli reported no incidents, indicating uneven rain distribution.

As of now, 19 tree-fall and 55 branch-fall cases have been cleared, while cleanup efforts continue across affected zones to restore normalcy.
