TAIPEI, Himalayan Siddha Akshar (Grand Master Akshar), a globally renowned spiritual and yoga master from India, is set to lead 5,000 participants in Taiwan in a historic attempt to break 12 world records in yoga on June 21, 2025, International Yoga Day.
Over the past 20 years, Grand Master Akshar has influenced major global corporations, including Mitsubishi, Rolls-Royce, and HSBC, by helping employees achieve mental and physical well-being through yoga. Now, he aims to bring his expertise to Taiwan in an unprecedented challenge.
Among those joining the record attempt is two-time Olympic gold medalist Lee Yang, who has practiced yoga since 2020 and credits it with enhancing his muscle coordination, flexibility, and mental resilience on the badminton court.
A Celebration of Yoga’s Global Impact
The 2025 Taiwan International Yoga Day event is set to be a landmark moment in the country’s fitness and wellness journey. The United Nations has long recognized the value of yoga, designating June 21st as International Yoga Day and December 21st as World Meditation Day to emphasize its benefits on health and well-being.
Scientific research from institutions like Harvard and Oxford has further validated yoga’s positive effects on stress relief, breathing, flexibility, and overall physical health. At a recent press conference, Dr. Zhang Hualun and Dr. Chen Xiaoqian reiterated how yoga benefits not only athletes but people from all walks of life.
Lee Yang himself shared his experience:
“Yoga has significantly improved my flexibility, focus, and stress management. It plays a crucial role in my training, and I’m excited to be part of this world record challenge.”
Why Taiwan? Grand Master Akshar’s Vision
Grand Master Akshar selected Taiwan as the venue for this record-breaking event due to the discipline, balance, and warm-hearted nature of the Taiwanese people, qualities that align with the core philosophy of yoga. The event was made possible through the efforts of Master Jane (WanChen, Tsai), a dedicated student of Grand Master Akshar in Taiwan.
Beyond yoga, Grand Master Akshar, a badminton enthusiast, is thrilled to meet Olympic champion Lee Yang, and the two are set to have a friendly badminton match following the press conference.
