Google has announced an exciting update to its NotebookLM Audio Overviews feature, now supporting more than 50 languages. This expansion broadens access to its podcast-style audio summaries, making it easier for users across the globe to access content in their preferred language.

First introduced last year, NotebookLM allows users to upload various sources of information, which are then converted into conversational audio summaries. Powered by Google’s Gemini audio technology, the feature has gained significant popularity since its launch.

Increased Language Options With this latest update, users can now select from a wide range of languages, including Afrikaans, Hindi, Turkish, and more. This gives global users greater flexibility to consume educational content or other resources in their native language.

Customizable Language Settings The new update also includes an “Output Language” setting, allowing users to choose the language for both audio and chat responses. This feature supports a variety of educational and professional use cases, such as multilingual lesson planning. For instance, a teacher preparing a lesson on the Amazon rainforest can combine resources in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, and generate a customized audio summary in the desired language.

A Step Toward Greater Accessibility As Arielle Fox, Program Manager at Google Labs, explained, this update is just an “early look” at the feature’s full potential. Google aims to refine the feature based on user feedback, ensuring it continues to meet the needs of diverse audiences worldwide.

Availability The expanded NotebookLM feature is now available for users in over 200 countries at notebook.google.com, offering a more accessible way to engage with information across different languages.
