New Delhi: In a significant move to combat online ad abuse, Google announced it suspended 2.9 million advertiser accounts in India in 2024 for violating its advertising policies. Additionally, the tech giant took down 247.4 million ads across platforms within the country.
The revelation came as part of Google’s annual Ads Safety Report, where the company highlighted the global scale of its enforcement. Worldwide, over 12.7 million advertiser accounts were suspended, and approximately 5.5 billion ads were removed for policy violations such as misinformation, scams, and harmful content.
Google stated that the enforcement measures were part of its ongoing efforts to maintain a safe digital advertising ecosystem. “We remain committed to tackling emerging threats and holding advertisers accountable to our policies,” the company noted.
The report also detailed proactive strategies like enhanced machine learning tools and human review systems that helped in identifying deceptive content more efficiently in 2024.
With India being one of the largest internet markets globally, the scale of policy enforcement highlights the magnitude of ad abuse in the region and Google’s response to safeguarding users and businesses alike.
