Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s highly anticipated action thriller Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is already making waves at the box office ahead of its release. The film has set new benchmarks in pre-sales, crossing the ₹12-crore mark worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film in international pre-sales.
With Indian bookings opening on March 21, the numbers are expected to rise significantly. According to trade reports, Empuraan is projected to earn ₹40-50 crore globally on its opening day, surpassing previous records set by Marakkar (₹20 crore on day one).

Online ticketing platforms such as BookMyShow show bookings in full swing across Kerala, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and other states, with more screens expected to be added soon.
If the film receives positive reviews, it could surpass Manjummel Boys, which holds the record for the highest-grossing Malayalam film at ₹241 crore.
Empuraan is the sequel to Lucifer, which marked Prithviraj’s directorial debut. The film’s trailer, released on March 20, has already generated immense buzz, showcasing Mohanlal’s Stephen Nedumpally in his journey to power.
The film boasts a stellar cast, including Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Abhimanyu Singh, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Saniya Iyappan, and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
