Tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) continue to escalate as Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement for the fourth consecutive day. The Indian Army reported that during the night of April 27-28, 2025, Pakistani Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts in Jammu and Kashmir.
Indian troops responded with “swift and effective” retaliation, ensuring the safety of their posts and maintaining dominance along the LoC, the Army said in an official statement.
This follows continuous provocations by Pakistan, including similar incidents on the nights of April 25-26 and April 26-27 in sectors opposite Tutmari Gali and Rampur. “Our troops responded effectively with appropriate small arms fire,” the Indian Army emphasized earlier.
The recent flare-up comes in the backdrop of the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which left 26 civilians dead. Following the attack, security forces have intensified their crackdown on terrorist elements across the Kashmir Valley.
In a significant move, authorities demolished the houses of three more suspected terrorists — Adnan Shafi Dar in Shopian, Amir Nazir in Pulwama, and Jameel Ahmad in Bandipora — raising the total number of demolitions to nine since the Pahalgam incident.
Meanwhile, diplomatic tensions have also surged. India has canceled visas for Pakistani nationals and suspended participation in the Indus Water Treaty. In retaliation, Pakistan announced the suspension of the 1972 Shimla Agreement and closed its airspace for Indian carriers.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah voiced support for a strong fight against terrorism but cautioned against alienating innocent civilians. “Punish the guilty, show them no mercy, but don’t let innocent people become collateral damage,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter), stressing the importance of maintaining public support in the Valley.
The ongoing ceasefire violations and diplomatic reprisals indicate a sharp downturn in India-Pakistan relations, raising concerns over stability in the region.
