Bengaluru: A schoolboy was left critically injured in a tragic accident in Jigani near Anekal on Wednesday morning when he was struck by a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus while attempting to cross the road to catch his school bus.

According to eyewitness accounts, the boy dashed across the road as the school bus was arriving to pick up children. In the rush, he was hit by an oncoming BMTC bus. Some bystanders claimed that the school bus driver also bore responsibility, alleging that he failed to slow down or alert the child in time, contributing to the incident.

The child was rushed to the hospital and is currently in critical condition. The accident has sparked outrage among local residents, who are calling for strict action against both drivers. They argue that the lack of proper safety measures for children during school commutes continues to pose serious risks.

Police officials have launched an investigation into the matter to determine the extent of negligence and responsibility.

This incident comes just weeks after another controversy involving a BMTC driver. On May 23, near Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, a BMTC bus driver allegedly attempted to run over a young woman after an argument. The shocking incident, captured on a nearby vehicle’s dashcam, surfaced online recently and has since gone viral.

In that case, the girl suffered minor injuries after standing in front of the bus to stop it, only for the driver to recklessly inch the vehicle forward, narrowly missing her.

Authorities are now facing growing public scrutiny over the safety and conduct of public transport operators in the city.
