Bengaluru Remote Tech Worker Anxious as Power Cuts Lead to Missed Meetings, Bosses Abroad Grow Suspicious

A Bengaluru-based software engineer has taken to social media to express mounting anxiety about job security due to frequent power outages that interfere with his remote work schedule. In a Reddit post, the tech worker shared the ongoing challenge of balancing his professional responsibilities with the reality of unpredictable infrastructure in India’s tech hub.

Residing in Indiranagar—considered one of Bengaluru’s upscale neighborhoods—the engineer claimed he faces power outages two to three times a week, with each lasting hours and often coinciding with work meetings. “Despite being in a so-called prime area, we’re seeing repeated and long electricity cuts,” he wrote.

The user, who works remotely for a small IT firm headquartered in Sweden, said he reports directly to the CEO and CTO. His daily meetings, held between 12:30 PM and 6:30 PM IST, frequently clash with the outages, making it difficult for him to maintain a consistent presence at work.

“I was headhunted for this role, and initially, everything was going well. But after missing a few meetings, I’ve sensed my CEO has started to doubt my reasons,” he said, admitting that his anxiety has worsened with each power cut.

Living in a modest 1 BHK apartment, the engineer revealed he cannot currently afford an inverter or backup power system, further complicating his situation. “It’s embarrassing and frustrating. I’m stuck with infrastructure I can’t control, yet I’m afraid of losing my job over it,” he added.

To address the issue, he has started logging each power outage and is now seeking advice from the online community on how to communicate the issue to his superiors without sounding like he’s making excuses.

The incident has reignited conversations around Bengaluru’s deteriorating infrastructure and its mismatch with the city’s global image as India’s tech capital.
