After weeks of sweltering temperatures, Bengaluru welcomed much-needed relief as heavy rains, thunderstorms, and hailstorms swept across the city on Saturday. Strong winds and intense downpours drenched several areas, cooling down the scorching summer heat.
Hailstorm Hits Hosakote, Rainbows Adorn the Sky
Residents in Hosakote, Bengaluru Rural district, witnessed a hailstorm, with videos circulating online showing hailstones pelting down. The northern and western parts of the city also experienced significant rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds.
Amid the stormy weather, Bengaluru residents took to social media to share visuals of rain-drenched streets, swaying trees, and even a stunning rainbow that appeared after the showers. One user humorously commented, “Bengaluru is Bengaluring,” capturing the city’s unpredictable yet refreshing weather shift.
Traffic Disruptions Due to Waterlogging
The Bengaluru Traffic Police issued an advisory warning commuters of severe congestion on the Nagawara-Hebbal stretch due to waterlogging. Drivers were urged to plan ahead and expect slow-moving traffic in affected areas.
IMD Forecast: More Rains Expected in Karnataka
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), more rain and thundershowers are expected across Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Mysuru, Kodagu, Hassan, and Chamarajanagar. Isolated showers may also occur in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Vijayapura, and Raichur, with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph in some regions. However, dry weather is likely to persist in other parts of the state.
As Bengaluru enjoys this unexpected turn in weather, residents are embracing the showers as a welcome break from the heat.
