The much-anticipated Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro is expected to become operational by the end of June or early July 2025. This new 19.15 km corridor connecting RV Road to Bommasandra will significantly enhance connectivity to tech hubs like Electronic City and ease traffic congestion in the city’s southern parts.

A senior official from BMRCL confirmed that the line is in its final stages. Two trains have already arrived and are undergoing regulatory procedures, including oscillation and signalling tests. A third train is expected by April end, with final approvals from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) anticipated around the same time. If all goes as scheduled, commercial operations may begin by June-end or early July.

The Yellow Line trains, built by China’s CRRC Nanjing Puzhen under a ₹1,578 crore contract, are part of a fleet of 36 trains. Of these, 15 are dedicated to the Yellow Line, with the rest allocated to the Purple and Green Lines. While prototype trains were built in China, the remainder are being manufactured in India through a partnership with Titagarh Rail Systems in West Bengal.

A standout feature of this corridor is the implementation of Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, paving the way for fully driverless metro services. Initially, however, loco pilots will monitor train operations until full automation is approved. This shift could reduce train frequency to just 90 seconds.

Key stations on the Yellow Line include RV Road, Bommasandra, Electronic City, Koramangala, Bommanahalli, and Hosur Road—bringing enhanced access to major commercial and residential zones.

As the city prepares for its first driverless metro line, this project marks a major milestone in Bengaluru’s transit modernization efforts.
