Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has publicly apologized after his social media remarks on the Brahmin community triggered widespread backlash and an FIR in Jaipur. The incident, which occurred during a heated online exchange, resulted in criticism from various groups and individuals across the country.
Kashyap addressed the controversy in an emotional Instagram post, admitting he spoke out of anger and crossed a line. He expressed regret for using inappropriate language, stating that his comments unintentionally hurt a community he deeply respects.
The filmmaker’s apology comes amid rising tensions surrounding his upcoming film Phule, based on social reformers Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule. The movie has already drawn scrutiny over its portrayal of caste issues, and Kashyap’s online defense of the film only added fuel to the fire.
The FIR was registered following a complaint by a local Jaipur resident, citing derogatory remarks made on social media. Sub-Inspector Ram Kripal confirmed the filing of the case at the Bajaj Nagar police station.
Kashyap concluded his statement by promising to manage his anger more responsibly in the future and to express his views with greater care.
