Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has come under sharp attack from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for his remarks questioning the timing of the Red Fort car blast in Delhi that killed 12 people and injured about 20. The BJP condemned the statement as “irresponsible” and reflective of what it called the Congress party’s “anti-national mindset.”
The explosion occurred on Monday and is currently under investigation by Delhi Police and national security agencies.
BJP Condemns Siddaramaiah’s Remarks
Reacting strongly to Siddaramaiah’s comment made in Mysuru — where he questioned why such incidents occur around election periods — BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra accused the Congress of undermining national unity.
“When the sovereignty and security of the nation are at stake, the entire country must stand together. The Congress leadership’s attempt to politicize a national tragedy exposes their true nature,” Vijayendra said.
He labeled Siddaramaiah’s remarks as “irresponsible, insensitive, and politically motivated.”
‘Anti-National Legacy,’ Says BJP
Vijayendra alleged that the Congress had a pattern of making statements that weaken India’s global standing, recalling that similar comments followed the 2019 Pulwama terror attack.
“These comments echo the same tone used by Congress leaders back then, aiding enemy propaganda. It’s deeply unfortunate that even matters of national security are being reduced to political debate,” he stated.
The BJP leader also accused the ruling party of trying to divert public attention from issues such as corruption, governance lapses, and stalled development projects in Karnataka.
Political Backlash Over Security Comments
Vijayendra cited multiple terror attacks between 2004 and 2014, including the 2008 Mumbai attacks, claiming that the then UPA-led Congress government failed to take decisive action despite repeated warnings.
“The Opposition then stood by the nation; today, the Congress is exploiting a national tragedy for electoral mileage,” he said.
Calling on Siddaramaiah to withdraw his comments, Vijayendra warned that voters in Karnataka would deliver a fitting reply to such “anti-national and insensitive politics.”
“For every true patriot, it has always been and will always remain: Nation First — everything else later,” he added.
Siddaramaiah’s Original Statement
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru on Tuesday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had said,
“The Centre must answer why such blasts occur during elections. Let the Central government investigate it.”
He also expressed condolences for the victims, calling the loss of innocent lives “tragic.”
However, the remarks sparked an immediate political storm, with the BJP accusing the Congress of using national security incidents for “cheap political gain.”
